King teacher gets creative with Randolphville students

Randolphville Elementary School kindergartners and first-graders discovered new ways at looking at the world during a special visit from Megan Froio, a math teacher at Martin Luther King Intermediate School!

Kindergarteners turned into puzzle creators. After practicing a few "Spot the Difference" examples as a group, the students set off to design their own. They were encouraged to use their artistic skills to make small, subtle modifications and clever coloring choices to ensure their puzzles were extra challenging. It was wonderful to see them thinking like engineers and considering how to make their “hidden” changes just tricky enough to stump a friend.

The first-graders put their spatial reasoning to the test. They were challenged to create the longest possible paper chain using only one piece of paper, scissors, and tape in just 12 minutes. The students strategized about thin strips versus wide loops. The winning group managed to engineer a 70-inch paper chain.

The students showed persistence and creativity – and had a blast working together and with Ms. Froio!
