Helping Your Child With Homework



Helping your child with homework is an opportunity to improve your child’s chances of doing well in school and life.


  • Each child will be responsible for completing assigned homework Monday through Friday.
  • Please see that your child reads for at least 20 – 30 minutes each night.
  • Please read with your child as often as possible.                                           




Pencils, a pencil sharpener, erasers, crayons, markers, a highlighter, glue, scissors, a stapler, paper clips, tape, a ruler, a calculator, index cards, writing paper, a dictionary, and if possible access to a computer with WiFi.


If possible, keep these items together in one place.




  • Plan a daily homework time.
  • Select a quite place for work to be completed.
  • Be available to offer assistance.
  • Look over completed assignments to ensure that work was completed carefully and as neatly as possible.
  • Sign or initial all assignments and your child’s Student Planner.
  • Review all papers sent home in your child’s Homework Folder and discuss marked papers with your child.
  • When your child has a test, please study the material to be assessed with your child in reasonable amounts each night prior to the test in order to avoid last minute cramming.
  • If your child shows signs of frustration, let him/ her take a break.  Encourage him/her and let him/her know he/she can do the work.
  • Remember to praise your child for working to the best of his/her ability.
