"There are perhaps no days of our childhood that we lived so fully as those we spent with our favorite book."
What does the learning look like in Room 5?
Reader's Workshop: Our next reading unit is called, “Reading to Learn” and will help students develop the lifelong habits for reading non-fiction. The unit involves teaching readers to read non-fiction with eagerness, interest, and fluency, comprehending the main idea and recognizing the infrastructure of the text. Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes at home and daily complete a reading log. In addition, they should be writing reading responses 3 times a week for homework.
Writer's Workshop: Our next writing unit is called, “Changing the World” and will connect opinion writing skills that they learned in 2nd grade to our new 3rd grade writing expectations and goals. Students are writing daily in their notebooks about their opinions and developing persuasive speeches. They’ll see problems that need to be addressed and imagine solutions that they will develop into writing pieces. Students will also be editing, revising and rewriting their work so their work is the best it can be.
