Third grade students have the opportunity to work with two teachers this year.  Mrs. Erickson and I will be your team teachers.  I will meet with you in room 3 and I will be your teacher for math, science, and social studies lessons.  Mrs. Erickson will be your ELA teacher.  She will meet with you in room 5 for readers' and writers' workshop.

You will switch classes each day, so it will be important for you to come to class prepared, organized and ready to work.

Parents, please review and initial your child's homework log  and folder each evening.

                             What's going on?

In math students will be working with addition and subtraction within 1,000 and representing and interpreting data.  Lessons include rounding to the nearest ten and hundred, estimating sums and differences, addition/subtraction strategies, and problem solving with multi-step problems.   Students will read and make picture graphs, bar graphs and line plots to represent data with several categories.  They will solve one- and two-step problems using information presented in graphs.

Our lessons this school year will continue with lots of work with multiplication, division, fractions, telling time, and measurement.  Please, spend some time each day "talking math" with your child. Talk about even and odd numbers, skip count, break numbers apart, follow recipes. Math is everywhere!

In addition to the daily math homework, please encourage your child to practice his/her facts.  Be sure to remind him/her to use the available online resources on Think Central, Khan Academy and Xtramath. Playing card games and number games are al
ways a great way to practice math skills and have fun together!
