First graders:

The first grade students are now able to ask and answer about 10 routine conversation questions that they are learning in class.  We have been practicing commands and numbers 0-15 using songs, games, addition and subtraction problems.  The students have been learning colors, shapes, and sizes. This will lead us into our new lessons on classroom objects, and days of the week.

Second grade:

Second graders are improving nicely in their routine conversation.  They are able to ask and answer about 14 questions in complete sentences, as well as recite and identify colors, shapes and sizes.  The students have been reviewing numbers 0-30 using math problems and the calendar. Our new lessons will be on classroom objects, followed by the days and months of the year.

Third grade:

The third graders are able to ask and answer about 18 questions in complete sentences.  Songs are used to reinforce vocabulary learned in a fun way.  The students have been practicing colors, shapes and sizes and are able to identify these in the classroom.  They are also learning the alphabet using songs, and chants.  The students identified words beginning with each letter of the Spanish alphabet.  The students are now practicing spelling their name in Spanish.  Third graders are also expanding learning numbers to 50 practicing with math skills.  This reinforces what students are learning in math in their classrooms.

Our new lesson will be on classroom objects.  Students will be able to identify what is in their backpack and in the classroom.  Songs, pair activities, and writing prompts will help reinforce the students learning skills.

I really enjoy listening to how much they know.  Please take some time and ask your child to teach you something in Spanish.
In addition, check out the practice videos on the left of this web page where your child can practice what we are learning in class with songs.

Helpful suggestion:

The following are some helpful suggestions to help your child practice at home in order to enhance what he/she is learning in Spanish class.

1. Ask your child what they learned in class.

2. Review and practice the basic conversation handout that your child will bring home to study.

3. Encourage your child to have a positive attitude when learning Spanish.

4. For at home practice the students may go to the website:
